Pharmacy Technician Certificate

 Students completing the Pharmacy Technician certificate program at Southern State Community College will  

  • Articulate the history of medicine, ethical and legal aspects of drug dispensing, the role of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy terminology, and dosage calculations.
  • Identify materials needed for the scope of pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacy management and operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety in the workplace including handling of infectious and hazardous waste.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic biology of the human organism.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of health care delivery system including history and definition.
  • Identify the multi-disciplinary skills required in a health care environment including OSHA measures and guidelines, infection control, and measurement of vital signs.
  • Document patient symptoms, conduct patient assessments, and validate a patient's understanding of their disease and treatment.
  • Institute appropriate response to various emergency incidents including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of privacy and ethical issues in the medical environment.
