International Admissions

The application procedure for non-resident foreign students is as follows:

  1. Complete and submit the Southern State Community College Application for Admission, International Student Application, and the International Student Transfer Report (where applicable).

  2. Submit the official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum test score of 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT), or 80 (iBT) with no section score below 51 (PBT), 18 (CBT), or 16 (iBT). Information on TOEFL testing can be found at: www.toefl.org. The institution code for Southern State is ‘1752’. Test results must be less than two years old.

  3. Submit both official copies and certified translated copies of the secondary school transcripts, and if applicable, official college transcripts.

  4. Submit the completed Financial Documentation for F-1 Applicants form. You must also submit Supporting Evidence as required in Section II of the instructions on the form. If you will be staying with a host family in the U.S. that is providing room and board, they must submit a notarized statement stating what support they will be providing. You must show that you have adequate finances (must be an amount sufficient to cover tuition, books, transportation, living expenses, etc.) to live in the U.S. for at least one year to be considered for admission. 

  5. Submit official transcripts from any U.S. college previously attended.

  6. The Admissions Office must receive all documents no later than 60 business days prior to the beginning of the quarter.                                          (Deadline for Spring Quarter 2009: Dec. 30, 2008              Deadline for Fall Quarter 2009: June 24, 2009)                               (Note: Documents submitted to Southern State Community College will not be returned.) 

    Applicants approved for admission will be issued an I-20 which will be mailed to the address on the Application for Admission. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Southern State Community College is located in rural southern Ohio. Since we are a commuter college, we do not have any college housing or public transportation. Students must make arrangements for their own housing and transportation. No        on-campus employment opportunities are available for international students holding an F1 visa.

Estimated costs for academic year (September – June): Tuition, $6528; Books, $1500; Living Expenses/Transportation, $13, 500. Total: $21, 528.
