Transferring to SSCC

Just as students transfer from Southern State to another college, we have a host of students that transfer to Southern State from other colleges. The admission policy for students transferring in is listed below however; we have listed some of the key points to remember in this process.

Official transcripts are the only means by which colleges transfer credit. In order to get credit from another college transferred to Southern State, a student must request that an official transcript be sent directly from the other college to SSCC. (Some colleges do charge for transcripts.)

Transcripts are only official when they have been delivered directly from the transferring institution. In short, a student copy of a transcript is helpful for advising but is not the piece needed for actual transfer. 

Once received, the transcript will be evaluated. Depending on volume, this process typically takes several weeks. After evaluation is complete, a SSCC transcript is sent to the student showing our equivalencies.

Upon receipt of transfer evaluation, students are encouraged to see their academic advisor to schedule classes. 

Policy:

a. Students previously attending an accredited institution recognized by the Council for
    Highter Education Accreditation may transfer courses as follows:
    • Courses taken prior to Autumn 2005 with a grade of "C minus" or above.
    • Courses taken Autumn 2005 or later with a grade of "D" or above.
    Students must have an official transcript sent to the Registrar's Office.

b. Applicants who have an earned an A.A. degree or A.S. degree from an Ohio public college, with an overall GPA of 2.0 of better, and have met the Transfer Module, will receive transfer credit for all college level courses which they have passed.

c. A student wishing to transfer  to Southern State Community College should be in good standing from the last college of attendance and transfer students mu7st comply with all admission procedures.

1. Applicants on probation from their former schools must obtain a 2.0  grade point average and no F’s in 12 credits in courses approved by the College.                                                                                  
2. Applicants under academic suspension from their former school must obtain a 2.5 grade point average and no F’s in 12 credits in courses assigned by the College. However, at least two quarters or one semester must have elapsed between an applicant’s suspension and the beginning of classes.
