Southern State Community College ’s mission of making quality education accessible to the community members of its service area hinges upon a well conceived set of strategic priorities, goals, and action objectives.  Looking in to Reach Out is a plan designed to capitalize on our successful history and use that platform to venture to a new level of excellence.

 The development of this plan began during the transition of presidential leadership in early 2007.  Therefore, as an institution, we had the luxury of capitalizing on the ideas and solidarity of a successful retiring president while also embarking on the vision of a new leadership team. The process was inclusive of the entire college community and represents collaboration at its best.

 From the strategic planning process, the college is unified on five strategic priorities including student access and success, maximizing learning opportunities, facilities improvement and planning, teaching and learning excellence, and assessment and institutional effectiveness. These priorities and their corresponding goals and objectives are complimentary to those at the state level.  We believe that they will position us to reach a new level in access, success, and excellence.

 Much work lies ahead over the next three years.  I am confident with a guiding plan such as Looking in to Reach Out we can accomplish extraordinary things.  We can improve our accessibility, positively impact student success, and become a model for teaching and learning excellence.  Further, we will hold ourselves accountable to our students, community and state while positioning the institution as a hallmark of the service region.

 I endorse this plan and pledge my support in its implementation.
