The LRC provides access to over 120 research databases in a variety of subject disciplines. Most of these are OhioLINK databases, but some are uniquely provided by Southern State. Successful students use these databases when given assignments that require reputable sources. The following databases are the most popular at SSCC, but are in no way the only sources of information for class assignments. CLICK HERE for a complete list of all research databases provided by OhioLINK. All databases with the exception of SIRS provide a direct export to RefWorks. Off-campus users must authenticate with their barcode number, found on the back of your photo ID, in order to use research databases remotely.

When using video tutorials in a public location, please be considerate of others and use a headset. The LRC provides headsets at most computers, and you can check them out at the desk in the library.

Academic Search Complete, designed specifically for academic institutions, is the world's most comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,300 journals and a total of 10,900 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. This scholarly collection offers full text coverage of information in many areas of academic study including: archaeology, area studies, astronomy, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, electrical engineering, ethnic & multicultural studies, food science & technology, general science, geography, geology, law, mathematics, mechanical engineering, music, physics, psychology, religion & theology, women's studies, and other fields.

SIRS Knowledge Source is a general reference database with thousands of full-text articles on social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles are selected from more than 1,500 newspapers, magazines, journals, and government publications. Graphics, including charts, maps, diagrams and drawings, are available for many of the articles. It also includes "Today's News: Top News Stories of the Day" from Reuters News Service and "Maps of the World" with over 100 detailed maps of the United States and the world. This database began as the Social Issues Resources Series and does not provide a direct export to RefWorks. If you cite from SIRS, you must add a reference manually in RefWorks.

LexisNexis Academic is used extensively in Business Law classes at SSCC and provides access to a wide range of news, business, legal, medical, and reference information from nearly 5,000 sources, most of them available in full text. The service covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, federal and state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings. News information is updated daily and wire services several times daily. Research areas in LexisNexis Academic cover top news, general news topics, and news transcripts; foreign language news sources; company, industry, and market news; legal news; company financial information; general medical and health topics and medical abstracts; accounting, auditing, and tax information; law reviews; federal case law; U.S. Code; and state legal research.

A comprehensive database covering all major areas of starting and operating a business including financing, management, marketing, human resources, franchising, accounting and taxes. Resources include sample business plans from the Business Plans Handbook series, how to guides, articles, business journals and websites. This resource is useful to students in entrepreneurship, business, and to local small businesses.

Electronic Journal Center (OhioLINK) includes the full text of more than 7000 online research journals covering many subject areas. Most electronic indexes available to the Ohio academic community link from article citations to the full text in the EJC.

CINAHL provides indexing for journals from the fields of nursing and allied health, with indexing back to 1937. Offering complete coverage of English-language nursing journals and publications from the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses' Association, CINAHL Plus with Full Text covers nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines. In addition, this database offers access to health care books, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, audiovisuals and book chapters, as well as Evidence-Based Care Sheet. Searchable cited references for many journals are also included. CINAHL Plus with Full Text provides full text 337 of journals, plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. PDF backfiles to 1937 are also included.

ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source covers nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine, consumer health, and much more. This database is designed to meet the needs of researchers at healthcare facilities as well as nursing and allied health programs at academic institutions. ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source provides abstracting and indexing for more than 525 titles, with over 470 titles in full-text.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals, including nearly 450 peer-reviewed journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also featured are abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong. In addition, this database includes Clinical Pharmacology, which provides access to up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs for U.S. prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new drugs. Health Source provides access to Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary. The majority of full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. Full text information in this database dates as far back as 1975.
