Honor Society at SSCC Inducts New Members

The membership of one of higher education’s most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa, was enhanced by the induction of 82 new members at a ceremony held at Southern State’s Central Campus on May 7.

Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa honors academic achievement in two-year colleges.  Acceptance into the society is no small task considering a student needs a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average and at least 24 credit hours to be considered for membership.  The local chapter, Alpha Omicron Eta, is one of nearly one thousand chapters in two-year colleges around the world.  Membership in Phi Theta Kappa, like its parallel for four-year colleges, Phi Beta Kappa, increases scholarship opportunities, job opportunities, and acceptance in university and college programs.
