Lady Patriots Participate in CBC Classic

The Southern State Community College (SSCC) Lady Patriots traveled to Circleville Bible College (CBC) on Thurs., Nov. 11; Fri., Nov. 12; and Sat., Nov. 13 to participate in the CBC classic. The Lady Patriots played in three games and walked away with a perfect record of 3-0. 

On Thursday afternoon, tournament action began with SSCC taking on Ohio University Southern, one of SSCC's regularly scheduled games.  The Lady Patriots put up quite a fight and managed to pull off a win with a final score of 67-63.  Southern State had four girls in double digits, which consisted of Ashley Wesley leading with 16 points, Ashley Day with 13 points, Anna Stevens with 12 points, and Adrienne Schaad with 10 points.  Statistics for this games are as follows: Barthel 1-2 [1-2]  3;  Cole 1-5 [0-0] 1-1  5;  Day 2-5 [0-0] 3-8  13;  Gillman 2-7 [2-2]  6;  Knabb 1-2 [0-0] 0-2  2;  Schaad 3-14 [1-6]  10;  Stevens 6-7 [0-0] 0-1  12;  Wesley 6-14 [1-4] 1-6  16.

On the second day of tournament play, SSCC faced off with Davis College out of New York.  This game was not as challenging for the Lady Patriots. SSCC came out strong from the beginning, not allowing any chance for a close game like the day before.  The Lady Patriots were victorious with a final score of 85-49.  Schaad was the high scorer with 20 points.  Day dropped in 15 points with Wesley close behind tallying14 points.  Statistics for the game include:  Barthel 3-9 [2-2]  8;  Cole 3-7 [1-2] 0-6  7;  Day 4-10 [1-3] 2-3  15;  Gillman 5-8 [2-2]  12;  Knabb 0-1 [0-0] 2-8  6;  Pride 1-1 [0-0]  2;  Schaad 10-14 [0-0] 0-2  20;  Stevens 0-6 [1-2] 0-3  1;  Wesley 5-15 [1-2] 1-6  14.

Concluding the tournament on Saturday was a showdown between the Lady Patriots and Circleville Bible College. SSCC came out strong and confident taking an early, comfortable lead. The Lady Crusaders had no hope of catching the Lady Patriots due to the fast paced tempo of the game.  It was more than Circleville could handle and the Lady Patriots walked away, undefeated, with their third win of the weekend, 110-41.  "We had an outstanding tournament," commented SSCC head women’s basketball coach Glenn Burns.  "It was exciting to see the girls come together as a team."   Ashley Wesley, from Western Brown, and Ashley Day, from Eastern Brown, made all-tournament team in the CBC Classic.  The Lady Patriots currently have a record of 6-1 for the season.
