Soccer Defeats CBC 4-1
On October 19
the Southern State Men’s Soccer team defeated Circleville Bible
College 4-1. The win improves the Patriots record to 7-11-1. Goals
were scored by Jason Iles (Fayetteville H.S.), Clint Lovely (Unioto
H.S.), Sinjen Miller (Blanchester H.S.), and Tim Roy (Eastern H.S.).
The Patriots scored 11 minutes into the game when
sophomore Matt Morris (Lynchburg H.S.) assisted on a beautiful 25
yard blast by Tim Roy (Eastern Brown H.S.). At the 20-minute mark
Roy assisted on a goal by Sinjen Miller (Blanchester H.S.). CBC
wasn’t going down without a fight, scoring on a free kick in the 34th
minute.
The Patriots answered less than a minute later when
sophomore co-captain Jason Iles (Fayetteville H.S.) dribbled through
the CBC defense to hit a shot from about 8 yards out. SSCC led 3-1
at the half.
Thirty minutes into the second half SSCC freshman
Clint Lovely (Unioto H.S.) was taken down in the CBC penalty box.
He picked up the third goal of his college career by converting the
penalty kick. SSCC dominated play throughout the game, out-shooting
CBC 45-6.
According to SSCC Head Coach Josh Thoroman, “This was
a good win for Southern State. We weren’t able to field a couple of
players and some of the guys are coming back from injuries. The
team really pulled together and played a very solid game.” |
