SSCC to Offer Two Exciting Agriculture Classes

Whether you are a gardener, hobbyist, or traditional student, Southern State Community College is offering two courses that may be of interest to you. Among the agriculture classes slated for winter quarter at the college’s central campus are Plant Materials and Landscape Maintenance.  Instructed by adjunct faculty member Darren Shick, these courses are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00-10:40 a.m. and 11:00-1:15 p.m., respectively.  These classes will cover a variety of topics and include hands on experience.

Landscape Maintenance will explore, through lecture and laboratory exercises, the cultural considerations and manipulations necessary to successfully establish and maintain vigorous, attractive landscape plantings. Topics include transplanting, pest control, fertility, pruning, and environmental disorders. This course, however, requires a prerequisite of AGRI 114, Introduction to Horticulture, and AGRI 208, Agronomy-Soils, or permission of the instructor.

Plant Materials is designed to introduce the student to the identification, use, and care of woody ornamental plants. This course does not require a prerequisite.
