Lady Patriots Continue Winning Streak

The Southern State Community College (SSCC) Lady Patriots traveled to West Virginia to play the Appalachian Bible College (ABC) Lady Warriors on Sat., Nov. 20.

Southern State came out strong at the tip.  Ashley Day put in some quick baskets for SSCC, giving them an early lead on the Lady Warriors.  ABC slowly started to catch up with the Lady Patriots, but fell short with a half-time score of 34-24.

At the beginning of the second half, SSCC came out fired up and was determined to walk away with a win.  The Lady Patriots’ half court pressure caused the Lady Warriors to turn the ball over several times.  "One of the main things we focus on is our intense defense.  We have some girls that really get after it and play 40 minutes of that ‘in your face’ defense," commented SSCC women’s head basketball coach Glenn Burns.

The Lady Patriots walked away with another win, finishing the game with a score of 81-57.  Leading the Lady Patriots with a double double was Ashley Day scoring 28 points and 10 steals.  Ashley Wesley was close behind with 22 points and Adrienne Schaad making 13 points.  The Lady Patriots currently have a record of 10 and 1.  "We have been playing really well as a team and everyone seems to know their role.  We have some girls that have really stepped up and became strong leaders for us.  I am very excited to see how the rest of the season goes for us,” said Burns. The Lady Patriots will host OU Southern tonight at the Highland County YMCA with a game time of 7:30 p.m.
