SSCC Announces PTK Inductees

Southern State Community College held its annual Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Induction Ceremony for this fall.  On Friday, Oct. 29, 30 students, along with their family and friends, filled the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium to become members of the PTK National Honor Society, an organization designed for two-year colleges. 

The evening began with a short welcome by PTK advisor and SSCC faculty member Jeff Montgomery. Following the welcome was an acceptance of candidates by SSCC president Dr. Lawrence Dukes. The PTK officer team then provided an explanation of the ceremony to the audience as well as to the inductees.  A pledge of membership was declared with the inductees signing the chapter record book, making them official members.  Concluding the evening’s events was a charge to new members with a reception that immediately followed celebrating the academic achievements that had been accomplished.

To be eligible for membership, students are required to complete at least 12 credit hours of associate degree coursework with an earned grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  Once students become members of the organization, they are required to maintain a 3.25 grade point average throughout the remainder of their membership term.
