Werline’s Retrospect of Prints Recognized

Southern State Community College, along with Assistant Professor James D. Werline, is pleased to announce the showing of the “Werline Retrospective Exhibition of Works in Print” currently underway at the college.  The display is open for viewing from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon. through Fri. until Dec. 1, 2004.

An open house is also scheduled to take place, allowing individuals in the community to view the limited-edition works of art as well as meet the artist himself.  The open house is scheduled for Fri., Nov. 19 from 6 -9 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Sun., Nov. 21 from 2 -4 p.m.

Mr. Werline, professor and artist, is a watercolorist who specializes in rarified realism, revealing the power of an element unique to his work. His art offers a captivating spiritual quality which is derived from his softness of stroke and his masterful ability to create timeless, intimate mood through suffusion of light. The exhibition presents a retrospective look at Werline’s signed and numbered works in print produced throughout his career as a painter.

The current display and open house will be held at the college’s Appalachian Gateway Center on south campus.  These events are free and open to the public.  Everyone is invited to attend.

This print, titled “Reflections,” is one of many works created by Werline.  The painting represents an Amish scene from Holmes County depicting the peace and calm of the Amish way of life.  This scene is located in Walnut Creek.
