SSCC Presents
Candee Basford Art Show
The Learning Resources Center (LRC), located on the
south campus of the Southern State Community College, is pleased to
announce an art exhibit and reception featuring local artist Candee
Basford, of Seaman. This event is free and open to the public.
The Candee Basford Exhibit is now on display in the
LRC until June 14. Basford will host an Art Speaks reception
in the LRC on Wed., April 16, beginning at 6 p.m. and concluding at
8 p.m. Another reception will be held on Thurs., April 17, from 2 –
4 p.m. for those unable to attend on Wednesday evening. The purpose
of the reception is to allow the public to meet with Basford and
discuss her work.
Basford, a former SSCC student, became interested in
art five years ago while studying for her graduate degree in adult
education at Antioch McGregor University. As a student there, she
learned that art is a form of qualitative research and she began her
artistic inquiry into the nature and meaning of experiences. She
developed a method that relied upon a combination of inquiry,
journaling, fabric patterns, watercolors, and words; a process she
uses today. The final results are abstract paintings that reveal
qualities, conditions and relationships that underlie a fundamental
question, experience, or concern.
Basford’s first series of paintings, which she
completed while studying with SSCC’s James Werline, will also be
featured during the exhibit. The series chronicles lessons learned
about oppression, social justice, and community on a life journey
with her daughter. These paintings are also featured in Basford’s
book, We Dance Together, A Painted Essay about My Education with
Katie.
This is a must see event where attendees can enjoy
good food, great art, and lots of fun. For more information about
