The dirt can be deceiving

If one were to judge what is happening at Southern State’s Fayette Campus based on the dirt being moved outside the building, an assumption might be made that it’s not business as usual inside. Contrary to the upheaval outside the building (as appearances can be deceiving), inside the building the faculty and staff are bustling to prepare for the start of fall classes which begin on Mon., Sept. 22.

“There is still plenty of time to register for fall,” according to Jessica Wise, Fayette Campus director. “The construction is a minor inconvenience but getting to the campus is not as difficult as it might appear.”

Wise went on to comment, “We continue to offer all of the services we have in the past, and we are anxiously awaiting the start of fall quarter. Thanks to the graciousness of the Fayette County Fair Board, we have an entrance to the parking lot through the fairground entrance.”

Slated for completion by June 2009, the construction is progressing as planned. “By this time next year, the Fayette Campus will have six additional classrooms including a new biology and chemistry lab, a community room, and a new student services area and bookstore.”

The additional space and other programmatic enhancements will position the college to deliver even more options for students of Fayette County. “We are both excited and hopeful regarding the physical and programming improvements that are underway,” said Wise. “However, we do not want the current construction to deter anyone from registering now. We have many courses that still have openings, and we encourage interested students to act now.”

The expansion project at Fayette Campus is slated for completion by June 2009. The additional space and programmatic enhancements promise to deliver even more options for students in Fayette County.
