“Your Place” Program to offer class at SSCC this fall

The “Your Place” Program at Southern State Community College is designed to assist single parents, displaced homemakers, those in transition, divorced, separated, and/or single-pregnant women in building self-esteem and achieving their goals of attaining education and/or employment.

The Program will be offering a six-credit hour class, “Your Place” for the Adult Learner, beginning Sept. 22 at the south campus in Fincastle on Mon. and Wed. mornings and at central campus in Hillsboro on Tues. and Thurs. mornings. Classes are held from 9 – 11:50 a.m.

The course will provide information and encouragement through the Program’s connection with employment and social services in the community. Students will receive personal attention in building confidence, clarifying values, exploring careers, making decisions, managing time and stress, budgeting, setting goals, and conducting a self-assessment. Students completing the course will leave with a specific plan and additional training or possibly employment.

Support services, such as travel and childcare allotments, are provided to eligible participants to aide in class retention. These funds are provided by United Way of Greater Cincinnati in the eastern area as well as the General Electric Community Service Fund at the Peebles test-site and the Carl Perkins Federal Grant.
