courses
Southern State
Community College will offer several new online, interactive,
virtual courses, through a partnership with Custom Training
Solutions, a division of Northwest State Community College.

Intro to
Microsoft Project:
Learn to identify the steps in project planning by building a
project, developing a project plan, defining goals,
requirements, tracking the progress of a project, resolving
resource over-allocation problems, reporting the progress of a
project, and evaluating a completed project. The Intro to
Microsoft Project virtual course includes a $180 fee and will be
held from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 15, 17, 22 and 25.
GD&T:
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing skills are valuable to
people creating and interpreting drawings or models; product and
gage designers; process, product and manufacturing engineers;
CMM operators; buyers/purchasers; checkers; inspectors;
technicians; and sales engineers. The GD&T virtual course
includes a $250 fee and will be held from 8-10 a.m. on Feb. 16,
18, 23 and 25.
Materials
(Plastics):
This course is designed to give a basic understanding of the
materials at work in the plastic industry today. The seminar
will follow polymer materials from initial development to where
they are today. The Materials (Plastics) virtual course includes
a $250 and will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 16, 18, 23 and 25.
Injection
Molding:
Designed for entry-level technicians, machine operators, sales
staff or individuals involved at any capacity in an injection
molding facility. The course will give a basic understanding of
what the injection molding process is, including characteristics
of the materials, the injection molding machine, the molds, and
the various support equipment used in the process. The Injection
Molding virtual course includes a $250 fee and will be held 3-5
p.m. on March 16, 18, 23 and 25.
Intro to
Microsoft Visio:
In this course, you will explore the Visio environment, use the
drawing tools, create basic diagrams, format drawings, use
network drawings, the custom properties feature and the
reporting feature. The Intro to Microsoft Visio virtual course
includes a $180 fee and will be held from 8-10 a.m. on March 23,
25, 30 and April 1.
Excel 2007
Pivot Tables:
Learn to use PivotTables to summarize and manipulate large data
stores. We will start with PivotTable basics and touch on more
advanced data manipulation techniques. We will also see how
PivotCharts help us to visualize data. The Excel 2007 Pivot
Tables virtual course includes a $50 and will be held from 8-10
a.m. on March 24.
Using Excel
2007 to Manage Your Finances:
Excel 2007 has powerful financial functions that will allow
you to see your true financial picture and then make informed
decisions as to where you want your financial future to take
you. This class will focus on creating a basic budget, using
some of the powerful financial functions in Excel 2007 and using
What-If analysis to help you make informed financial decisions.
The Using Excel 2007 to Manage Your Finances virtual course
includes a $50 fee and will be held from 8-10 a.m. on March 31.
Intro to
Quality/SPC:
An overview of quality fundamentals and an introduction to
Statistical Process Control charting. The course is designed for
manufacturing people from all areas. Includes in-class exercises
to reinforce the quality principles and for the trainees to gain
“hands-on” experience by applying and interpreting basic quality
tools and control charts. The Intro to Quality/SPC virtual
course includes a $225 fee and will be held from 8-10 a.m. on
April 6, 8, 14 and 15.
Intro to
Crystal Reports:
This course covers creating simple reports, working with the
report design environment, organizing and analyzing report data,
using parameter fields, formulas and functions, record
selections, sub reports, cross-tab analysis, charting and
graphing, geographic mapping, and working with data sources. The
Intro to Crystal Reports virtual course includes a $180 fee and
will be held from 3-5 p.m. on April 6, 8, 13 and 15.
Excel—Charts,
Charts and More Charts:
In this course, we will examine basic charting techniques. Using
real-world examples, we will also examine the many different
chart types that available in Excel 2007. The Excel—Charts,
Charts and More Charts virtual course includes a $50 fee and
will be held from 8-10 a.m. on April 7.
Data
Management in Excel:
Excel 2007 has tremendous data management capabilities and we
will investigate how we can effectively use those capabilities.
We will learn about basic and advanced filtering techniques, as
well as using the subtotal function and custom views. The Data
Management in Excel virtual course includes a $50 fee and will
be held from 8-10 a.m. on April 14.
