Assistance from the Learning Resources Center

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) at Southern State provides a variety of resources to assist the dislocated worker.  All of the resources (print and electronic) are available free of charge.  Anyone needing a library card that is not enrolled or employed at the college can obtain a courtesy card to gain access.  The LRC web site is located at http://lrc.sscc.edu.

Resources for displaced workers

LearningExpressLibrary – This valuable resource will help registered users improve their academic and computer literacy skills.  Here you’ll find assistance developing your resume or cover letter, interviewing for a job, or you can brush up on your business writing or math skills.  Composed of both courses and tests, LearningExpressLibrary will prove an invaluable resource for you.  To register, you must either come to campus or call our library staff and we’ll register you over the phone. Once you have an account, you may access it from any Internet accessible computer. 

Small Business Resource Center – This resource, provided by the LRC and Corporate & Community Service, provides a wealth of information for the small business operator and entrepreneur.  You can easily find business plans on most every type of small business, articles of interest to the small business operator, and ‘how to’ resources for small businesses.  Click on this link to connect: Small Business Resource Center.  Remote users not affiliated with the college must apply for a courtesy card.

Atomic Learning – Do you need to brush up on your computer skills?  Are you not familiar with Office 2007 or Vista ?  Atomic Learning provides thousands of short video tutorials on all aspects of using technology, from your favorite software application to calculator use.  You can even learn more about Web 2.0.  For remote users, the username: sscc password: patriots.

Access to Print Resources – The LRC provides access to thousands of print and video resources to assist the job seeker or displaced worker.  Southern State is a member of OhioLINK.  If you have a courtesy card, you can request and checkout any available item from any OhioLINK library, free of charge.  You’ll find useful resources on resumes, changing careers, apprenticeships, licenses and certification, and continuing education.  Click here to connect to OPASS, the online library catalog at Southern State: http://lrc.sscc.edu/search.
