Clubs and Organizations
Southern State sponsors a host of clubs and organizations including Medical Assistants Club,
Phi Theta Kappa, REACH, Student Nurses Association, and Students in Action.
Phi Theta Kappa – The Alpha Omicron Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is a national honor society for community college students who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better. Phi Theta Kappa’s primary mission is to recognize and reward academic achievement in the two-year college. Students are invited to join and become active in the community life of the college.
Resources Effectively Advocating Community
Help (REACH) - Formed
by SSCC students, REACH is an organization that is also open to
community members. The club’s purpose is to provide leadership,
education, and resources through advocating and volunteering for
fellow students and members of the community. Among the many
activities conducted by this group include charitable fundraisers,
sponsoring community and school events, and presenting resources to
students and community members. Persons interested in joining this

Students in Action - Students in Action is a service organization.The group was established by Bill Horne and Steve Witham. Horne, a business and economics instructor, serves as the faculty advisor and Witham is an accounting and computer-programming student at the college. This organization is open to all Southern State students. The only membership requirement is that the individual has an interest in helping his or her school and the community. Participation is always encouraged and the events involve students, faculty, administration, family, and friends.
