PURPOSE

The Tutoring Department at Southern State is committed to providing students the assistance they need to succeed in the college learning environment. The tutoring department offers a variety of services ranging from individualized tutoring to general open labs. Our commitment is to the student and our goal is to further facilitate the learning process.

TYPES OF SERVICES OFFERED

Tutoring is currently conducted by one of four methods: individualized instruction, open lab instruction, distance lab instruction, and online instruction.

Individualized Instruction-This method of instruction is one of the most common in the program. It relies on one-to-one contact between the tutor and the tutee. Tutors conduct regular appointments with the student to assist them with comprehension of the material.

Open Lab Instruction-Open labs are offered primarily in Math and English/Writing. The open lab environment is open to all students of Southern State. Math labs are designed to cover a variety of topics ranging from Basic Math to Calculus. English/Writing Labs are offered to assist students with grammar, usage, and issues related to writing essays and papers.

Other Resources-In order to help students, the tutoring department provides additional resources recommended by faculty. The "Other Resources" portion of the site contains web pages, tutorials and other links that students may find useful when a little extra assistance is needed.
