ACADEMIC COUNCIL MINUTES
Present: Jeff Montgomery, Brian Siemers, Don Storer, George Carver, Marsha Snyder, Ric Shrubb, Dr. Cronan (presiding)
Dr. Cronan reminded each coordinator that a separate application would be needed from each of them for the coordinatorship for next year. The jobs were posted.
In round-robin fashion, each coordinator described her/his experience in the job. It was a consensus that staffing classes with adjuncts was the biggest duty. It also was agreed that the mentoring of adjuncts was still not as good as it should be. Several coordinators mentioned the fact that other full-time faculty had been very helpful when needed. Dr. Cronan reiterated that each coordinator should arrange for some full-time faculty in the discipline to contact each adjunct a couple of times a term to offer help.
Handling of student complaints about adjunct faculty was discussed. It was agreed that a positive approach should be used, including an offer to the adjunct to visit one’s own classes.
Several coordinators felt they did not understand the budget
requesting and budget requisitioning system very well. It was agreed to have a
meeting on June 27th at
Dr. Cronan reminded each of the coordinators about the adjunct faculty orientation meeting during the September orientation week. A schedule of activities for the orientation week will be sent out to everyone.
