ACADEMIC COUNCIL

June 28, 2002

Present: T. Stroup, B. Worpenberg, L. Chamblin, M. Snyder, K. Newby, S. Stout, Dr. Cronan(presiding)

The new faculty coordinatorships were discussed. After receiving the faculty committee recommendation, Dr. Cronan will post the 5 new coordinatorships. The faculty coordinators will serve as members of the Academic Council in place of  the Senate President and Vice President or SSEA President.

The summer 2002 schedule was discussed and needed additions discussed. It was agreed that an additional Bio 105 and a Bio 210 were needed aas well as an English 100. Chemistry 122 appears to have been over-subscribed. Dr. Cronan will discuss this with Don Storer.

It also was decided that Dr. Cronan will ask all faculty and staff about their experience with  advising students for summer classes to find out if other sections were needed and if some current sections could have been eliminated.

It also was decided that the course sequence which requires a summer course is Calculus, since it is a four-quarter sequence. If this sequence is run fall, winter, and spring, then the 4th quarter should be run in the summer.

Since over-all enrollment this summer allowed it, several other math courses were run with small numbers, but this will not always be possible.
