Others in attendance: Ric Shrubb
Added to the agenda:
· Textbook changes in CSCI 113 and CSCI 205
· Discussion item – Corrections
The amended agenda was approved.
Minutes from January 18 were not approved. Two changes were requested. The minutes will be reissued and voted on at the March 15 meeting.
Old Business:
1) ECED articulation with Wilmington College – Becky Storer. Ed Daniels spoke with Becky and this articulation is not ready yet. The item was tabled until the next meeting.
2) Speed Reading course – Bill Horne. Students are interested in having this course taught here, so Bill brought the idea to this committee for discussion. This idea needs research. Ric Shrubb said he would do some investigation into the matter.
New Business
1) Course Assessment Outcomes form – Ric Shrubb. This form has already been presented to Faculty Senate. Chuck Wright and Bill Worpenberg designed it. Ric added an instructional sentence at the beginning and activity examples on the back. The document should be filled out one time for each course. All technology fields would need to design their own technology outcomes (area G) for assessment. In general studies there will be department meetings scheduled to work on these sheets. These sheets should really benefit adjuncts.
Bill moved to accept the form, Ed second, motion carried.
2) Office Information Technology curriculum – Dick Achor and Peggy Roark. Delete CSCI 130 Windows & DOS and add OFIT 140 Customer Relations to the curriculum.
3) Office Services Certificate – Dick Achor and Peggy Roark. Add OFIT 140 to the curriculum.
4) New course – OFIT 140 Customer Relations – Dick Achor and Peggy Roark.
Items 2, 3, and 4 will be voted on at the next meeting.
Items for Discussion
1) Corrections Program – Jon Davidson. Jon outlined his concern with the amount of time students receiving corrections credit for life experience would be logging for the credit.
· College credit at SSCC – one credit hour is awarded for 500 minutes in class work and 1,000 minutes out of class work on a typical class.
· With the corrections basic training program students would receive 12 credit hours for 160 hours of life experience. This equals about 800 minutes of work per credit hour earned.
It was observed that a typical class requires 1,500 minutes of work by students, but the corrections basic training program requires 800 minutes and the college does not know how to award life learning credit.
A motion was made – The college needs to determine who will be responsible for showing faculty how to award life learning experience credit.
Bill moved, Ed seconded. Motion carried.
Ed moved to adjourn.
