Jon announced he would not be at the next meeting April 19. Tom Stroup will chair that meeting.

Approval of minutes from January 18 Jeff Montgomery moved to accept. Denise seconded. Motion carried.
Approval of minutes from February 15 Jeff Montgomery moved to accept. Jeff Ladrach seconded. Motion carried.
1) ECED articulation with Wilmington College. Don Storer reported there was a hold up due to confusion over the math/science requirements. There should be a final draft ready by the next curriculum meeting.
2) Speed Reading course Ric Shrubb talked to other schools in SOCHE and did some research on the Internet. He found no college offering speed reading as a class alone. It is incorporated as part of another course. Speed reading courses are taught in continuing education departments. The course usually meets for 10 to 12 two hour sessions. Bill Horne will talk to Karen Newby about this issue.

3) Office Technology Curriculum delete CSCI 130 Windows & DOS; add OFIT 140 Customer Relations.

Dr. Cronan was concerned with deleting the Windows and DOS course. Jeff Montgomery said the faculty in CSCI thought it was time to delete this course.
Bob moved to approve 3, 4, and 5. Bill seconded. Motion carried.
1) CHEM 111, 112, 113 First Year Chemistry Labs I, II, II increase lab fee to $40.
2) CHEM 120 and 122 Introduction to Chemistry I and II increase lab fee to $20.
3) CHEM 124 Elementary Organic Chemistry increase lab fee to $25.
4) CHEM 211, 212, 213 Organic Chemistry Labs I, II, III increase lab fee to $45.
1-4 were presented by Don Storer. Don said lab fees were too low. For example, University of Cincinnati lab fees were $70 while Southern States were $10. The fees are needed to beef up class materials.
Tom moved to approve. Brenda seconded. Motion carried.
5) ALTH Allied Health Prefix to be dropped from the catalog because it is not needed.
6) Delete ALTH 110 Pharmacology. This course has never been taught. It was intended to be an introductory course.
Marilyn moved to delete the course. Jeff Ladrach seconded. Motion carried.
7) Paper work to delete CORR 102 Report Writing and Interviewing from the college catalog. Laura said this is a clean-up from last July.
Bob moved the course be deleted. Jeff seconded. Motion carried.
8) Paperwork to delete CORR 210 Internship. Dr. Cronan would like to keep this course available. Tom moved to table it.
9) MATH 101 Basic Math. Prerequisite. Linda said she thought there had been a prerequisite, but there wasnt. She proposed making one year of high school algebra or appropriate placement test score the prequisite.
Bob moved to approve. Bill seconded. Motion carried.
10) Music Appreciation sequence Brian Siemers. Brian proposed three new courses, FNAR 116, 117, and 118 (Music Appreciation I, II, III) for the transfer module. FNAR 110 (Fundamentals of Music Appreciation will eventually be deleted. In the mean time, it will be tagged so that students taking it will be given credit for FNAR 116. Ric will work on getting the new music courses on the transfer module.
Bob moved the committee suspend the procedure and vote on this course. Bill seconded. Motion carried with Tom dissenting.
Marilyn moved the courses be accepted. Jeff Ladrach seconded. Motion carried with Tom dissenting.
11) HPER 106 Weight Training. Ken said this is a popular physical education activity course at most colleges and several students at Southern State had expressed interest in it.
Bob moved to approve the course. Brenda seconded. The course could not be voted on until there was a vote to suspend the rules. Brenda moved to suspend the rules and vote on approving this course. Marilyn seconded. Motion carried by a 6-3 vote. (Tom, Bill and Bob opposed.)
The vote was taken on the previous motion to approve the course. Motion carried by a 6-3 vote.
12) CSCI 146 Computer Graphics Animation change from 2 hours lecture and 2 hours lab to 3 hours lecture and 1 hour lab.
13) CSCI 147 Web Page Design change is same as CSCI 146.
14) CSCI 150 Operating Systems change from 1 hour lecture and 2 hours lab to 2 hours lecture and 1 hour lab.
15) CSCI 235 Network Administration change is same as CSCI 146 & 147.
16) CSCI 255 Computer Programming Logic. Change is same as CSCI 146, 147 & 235.
Jeff Montgomery asked these be voted on as a package. He said the credit hours for these classes were staying the same, but the contact hours were being changed.
Tom moved to accept the changes. Bill seconded. Motion carried.
17) Change in the corequisite for PRAC 108. Brenda said the department proposed changing the corequisite as follows: For Winter quarter BIOL 105 & 112. For Spring quarter, BIOL 105 & 112, PRAC 101 and 110.
Bob moved to approve. Marilyn seconded. Motion carried.
18) Medical Assisting articulation with Southern Hills Joint Vocational School. This agreement is identical to the Great Oaks agreement approved in a previous meeting.
Jeff Montgomery moved to accept. Tom seconded. Motion carried.
Jon announced that Brian Siemers will take Ed Daniels place on the committee for the rest of the year.
