Faculty began the meeting with a discussion of the history of the Course Outcomes Assessment Forms and how they were used to formulate the goals of the Learning Outcome plans for departments. New faculty and faculty teaching new courses updated their Course Outcomes Assessment Forms.
The primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss two main topics:
-possible strategies for the administering of a pre and post test for general education (“pre” before students begin their coursework, and “post” during the capstone course).
-the design of a capstone course for general education.
The committee also discussed the administering of the pre and post test at a midpoint in students coursework.
The committee made plans for the next meeting:
Ric Shrubb will talk to neighboring schools to see if any of them are doing a mid-point assessment test;
Faculty will send Ric copies of their finals that may be included in the construction of the pre and post test;
Ric will research samples of pre and post tests designed for general education;
Faculty will consider what should be offered in a capstone course and who should be assigned to teach the course.
