Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable Report 10-30-98

 

The following SSCC staff attended the Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) Conference held in Columbus in October, 1998.  Over 450 people attended this conference, representing most of Ohio's colleges and universities.

 

The TLTR representatives from SSCC met to provide their final report on Friday, Oct. 30, 1998.  SSCC representatives on the TLTR are:

The TLTR reviewed the notes taken and compiled by Mindy.  We have completed tasks A, 1, 3, and 5. Mindy will write the narrative report based on our work from the workbook.  Dennis will set us up for a ListServ for email.  The ListServ will be:  tltr@soucc.southern.cc.oh.us

 

Some items overlooked in Columbus: more projection devices are needed in classrooms and printing solutions should include digital copying.

 

Comments from Don (unable to attend today): There should be a visit made to Irwin Boshwain(?) at IUPUI.  He also suggested we use PowerPoint to show faculty our report or progress.

 

The group asked Dr. Dukes to attend to seek guidance from him on our charge.  Mindy described our group.  The Technology Committee looks at the use of technology of college and prioritizes based on funds available.

 

TLTR may be a sub-committee of the Technology Committee.  Technology Committee receives requests for technology, college-wide.  TLTR is 'experimental'.   TLTR is a 'teaching' group for use of technology.  Perhaps it might be best to eventually merge both groups into one overall group, representative of the entire college.  President recommended we proceed under the present structure, but eventually we only need one technology group to provide guidance to the college.

 

 

 

Jeff recommended we follow this format:

 

1. As we complete our tasks:

 

·        We modify membership of this group to make it representative of the college

 community.

·        Establish a process

·        Set up action teams

·        Receive and distribute information.  Merge with the Technology Committee, only one group.

At 11 am it was decided that Mindy will complete the next questions and bring responses back to the group.

 

Set next meeting: Friday, December 4th 1 pm to 3pm.
