Teaching and Learning Technology Roundtable (TLTR)

February 23, 2001

The TLTR group met via ITV on February 23, 2001 beginning at 10:30 a.m.  Members present included:

Louis Mays and Virginia Ferguson from South Campus and Mary Ayres guest.

Dennis Griffith, Ernie Cronan, Kristi Hall, Sherry Stout, Carol Callahan, Shirley Cornwell from Central Campus.

Michele McCarren and Doug McKay from North Campus

WebCT Training:

Ernie mentioned that Cathy LaParl will be mentoring training sessions for WebCT for faculty beginning Spring Quarter.  Release time for faculty will be given to participants.  See her for details and any re-scheduling for Spring Quarter that will be required.  Training will continue throughout the year.

Handouts:

Handouts were faxed to all campuses and included:

“Information Technology Plan”

“Assumptions for Preparation of Technology Plan”

“Equipment Budget Priorities for next Fiscal Year”

“Draft of format for addressing Technology Needs”

The group liked the sample format passed out by Ernie.  Carol commented that the cart in room 201 is too large to accommodate the classroom needs.

Charge of Teams:

Ernie reviewed the charge of the various teams associated with Technology:

Academic Technology

Distance Learning

Empowering Students

Web Development

Staff Development

Ernie would like each team above to develop a three-year plan and will meet with the team leaders next Friday, March 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Central Campus.  Team leaders are Kristi Hall, Jeff Montgomery, Josh Montgomery, Don Storer and Doug McKay.

Student ID cards:

The group discussed how to issue universal ID numbers to students, which will be used college-wide.  The group looking into this is investigating the use of drivers licenses and the unique ID barcode available on the license cards.  More information will be provided later.  The unique number will be put into the student account records and library patron records.

LRC Server Replacement:

Louis reviewed the LRC server replacement plan.  The two-year colleges in Ohio are negotiating with Innovative Interfaces for a state-wide purchasing plan for all INNOPAC library servers.  If 13 or more colleges participate, substantial savings will be made available to each college library.  Southern State should send a letter of commitment to Kathyrn O’Gorman at Cincinnati State by March 1st if we are to participate.  The vendor will allow 50% payment of the total over the next two fiscal years.

After further discussion, the TLTR group adjourned.
