Present: Doug McKay,Dennis Griffith, Josh Montgomery, Carol Callahan, Karen Newby,Don Storer,Virginia Ferguson, Carrie Deatley, Louis Mays, Rick Shrubb, Dr. Cronan(presiding), and the fleeting image of Jeff Montgomery

The following topics were discussed and the indicated action taken:

--The Distance Education chapter was discussed and it was decided to add objectives dealing with provision of library services and with  formal evaluation. In addition, wording on several objectives was discussed and altered. Doug and Dennis will send some other changes to Dr. Cronan to integrate into the plan by early next week and send out to the TLTR. At the May meeting, the goals and objectives of this chapter will be finalized and development of specific  activities begun.

--The chapter on WEB Page development will be ready in draft in time for the May meeting

--The chapter on Empowering Students will be drafted during the summer

--Dr. Cronan will contact Kristi and Jeff about the chapters on Academic Technology and  on faculty/staff development.

--Dr. Cronan indicated that this fall we will “lease” an ITV course in French from Columbus State, which has a well-developed ITV French series. This will allow us to offer  French during the day to students on 2 of our campuses(North and South). Carol Shull has agreed to teach the Spanish sequence at night from Central to South and either Fayette or North(or both, if she so chooses), so that evening students will also have available  an entire language sequence.

--A discussion of the issues involved in the contracting of courses and programs from a third party  followed. Most of the contractual issues are addressed in the policies and procedures which have been developed by CARE, RLN. Dr. Cronan also mentioned an individual faculty member from Ripley who has developed, offered, and owns  some on-line business courses and who wants to offer them to our students, working as an adjunct faculty member. It was agreed that in all these scenarios, the distance learning course would be treated no differently from a classroom-based course.

--            We could contract for provision of a distance learning course either by ITV or by computer of any course in our catalog from the many providers listed in the OLN catalog. However, the concensus was that starting small was advisable.

--The next meeting is May 11 at 10:30 via ITV
