Minutes of TLTR

May 23, 2003   1:00 p.m.

Present:  Josh Montgomery, Virginia Ferguson, Kristi Hall, Carol Callahan, Sharon Purvis, Dr. Cronan (presiding)

Dr. Cronan indicated he had received no input on the revision of the Technology Plan so he will send an update out for comment.

Josh reported that the log-in scheme would have to stay the social security number. Using anything other than the social security number will require editing the AS400 defaults, and this will require some programming, which Shirley says we cannot do.

The group talked about having a common Web-CT log-in scheme. Josh and Dennis will develop this scheme and report it to all of the faculty.

Sharon reported on the issues involved in cross-listing of courses. Again some programming of the AS400 would be required to do this without any manual checks. Sharon indicated that doing a query at the beginning of each quarter and then checking by hand would be another way to accommodate cross-listing.

Ernie indicated that in September, read-only access to the department budgets will be available through the web for people having access. No special training should then be required for read-only access. However, understanding how to view the purchasing process will require some training.

Kristi reported that Louis Mays had written an information literacy requirement which the Technology Committee was going to recommend. Copies will be sent to us.

The group discussed possibilities for creating a sign-off on our computer use policies, either as a part of registration or admission or as a part of accessing our systems or equipment. A sub-committee of Josh, Dennis, Admissions and Registration Personnel will review this issue and report back to us.

Josh reported that the Web-CT page was available, under Current Students, off of our web page. There is a tutorial done by Cathy LaParl and a brief introduction to Web-CT.

Training for teaching on Web-CT was discussed at length. The SOCHE on-line program will be available again next fall. In addition, there are other workshops. It was decided that we might try a Saturday afternoon workshop in late June for faculty who have material and want to change it over for use in Web-Ct. Virginia volunteered to conduct the workshop.

Respectfully submitted,

C. Ernest Cronan
