Assessment of Student Learning Committee Minutes

Friday 14 February

The Assessment Committee met at three o’clock on February 14 in the conference room on Central Campus. Attending were Ernie Cronan, Ric Shrubb, Karen Newby, Sherry Stout, and Kathy Daniels. The following items were discussed and acted upon:

  • The committee will meet the second Friday of each month at 11:00 on Central Campus.

  • Update of Program Review from Dr. Cronan—the review of the Agriculture program (the first program to be completed) is ready to send to Dr. Dukes. Completion of this first program means that the procedure for review is now in place.

  • Karen Newby announced that the Ohio Assessment Forum will be held March 7 in Columbus. This is a one-day intensive forum for faculty, administrators and assessment representatives from two-year community and technical colleges in Ohio. SSCC plans to send at least two representatives. Faculty are encouraged to attend.

  • Karen Newby provided information about a pilot program for assessment software. SSCC could use this free pilot program to train faculty to use the software to standardize our assessment reports. The program, created by Cytera Systems, is course specific but flexible enough to adjust to our individual needs. SSCC must notify Cytera Systems by March if we intend to take part in the pilot program.

  • One faculty member from each discipline will be identified to work with integrating the college’s Student Learning Outcomes into courses.

  • The committee will create an assessment resource area for faculty to use.

Respectfully submitted by Kathy Daniels
