Bio: A resident of Lake Waynoka in Brown County, Louis is active in various community organizations. He is a member of the Lake Waynoka Long Range Planning Committee, the Waynoka Garden Club, and the HEALTH-UC Advisory Board. He has been employed at Southern State since 1978.
Professionally, he is a member of the American Library Association, the National Education Association, the Ohio Education Association, the Ohio Educational Library/Media Association, and is currently the president of the Rural Ohio Valley Health Sciences Library Network (ROVHSLN). He also represents the college library on the Library Director's Council of the Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium, and the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education. He is the college's representative to the OhioLINK Long Range Planning Committee. He is also a member of OSTEER, the governing board of OARnet, the college's Internet Service Provider. Louis serves as treasurer of the Southern State Education Association and was named "Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year" at the 1999 commencement services. He serves on the college’s Technology Committee.
As librarian, Louis is responsible for the selection of both print and electronic resources for the library's collection. He works closely with faculty to encourage library usage in the classroom. He conducts numerous staff development workshops at the college and is actively involved in promoting information literacy skills in the classroom. In addition to his duties as librarian, Louis also teaches library science courses at the college and has taught library science courses at other colleges and universities. He has been actively recruiting future librarians by encouraging many local individuals to further their education by getting their MLS degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
