Critical for Success!!! |
| 1. You should have good keyboarding skills. (If you are a hunt-and-peck typist, you will find online courses very time consuming.) |
| 2. You should know how to create, save, and manage files – if you are unable to locate files on your computer, you will have difficulty with all of your online classes and especially the classes using Keyboarding Pro 6 or Keyboarding Pro Deluxe 2 (CSCI-101-Computer Keyboarding, OFIT-106-Keyboarding I, OFIT-107-Document Processing) where you have to actually install software and upload to the Cengage Web Server. |
| 3. You should be familiar with the use of file extensions such as .rtf, .doc, .docx, .pdf and understand that .lnk is not a viable file and is only a shortcut to the original documents on your computer. Never attach a file in your course that ends in .lnk - it will not work! |
|
4.
You should know how to use attachments and
upload and download files through your Blackboard Mail and Blackboard
Assignment Tool Area, Discussion Tool Area and Assessment Tool Area and you
should make sure you have completed the Browser Check on the Blackboard page
so you know your computer is ready for online courses. To check you browser go
to: BLACKBOARD BROWSER CHECK - IS YOUR COMPUTER READY FOR BLACKBOARD? Click this link to check! |
| 5. You should know how to use any application required by the course, such as a word processing program that your instructor requires. All your course documents for my courses will be in Microsoft Word 2010 (.docx) format or Adobe Reader (.PDF) format. If you do not have that software on your computer you will not be able to open your course documents and will have to find a computer that can open the files. All campus computers can open Microsoft Word 2010 and Adobe Reader files. If you do not have the required software on your computer, you need to get to your nearest campus as soon as possible to open and read your very critical, very important course documents. |
| 6. You should know how to install software if you are in CSCI-101-Computer Keyboarding, OFIT-106-Keyboarding I or OFIT-107-Document Processing, or OFIT-261-Transcription. OFIT-107-Document Processing REQUIRES THAT YOU HAVE MICROSOFT WORD 2010 installed on your computer along with the Keyboarding Pro Deluxe 2 Software. The Keyboarding Pro Deluxe2 software required for CSCI-101, OFIT-106, OFIT-107 - will not work on a MAC computer. The required Keyboarding software is installed on campus locations in the library and you can do your course work on campus if you are unable to install the Keyboarding software on your home computer. |
| 7. You should be comfortable using a browser such as Internet Explorer |
