Do so soon. Failure to contact me by Friday, Mar. 31st may result in you being bumped from the class!

This online course contains the same content as the on-campus versions. Besides the regular course textbook, I deliver course content through a web site containing original materials I have written. These are examples with explanations worded informally much as I would explain it in class if there were no questions or discussions. I do not use WebCT. My web sites are accessible to everyone for free. For those who prefer the convenience, a 269 page print version of my web site materials is available in the bookstore for $17.72.

I strongly encourage math questions. When you send me a non-personal math question by e-mail then I will send the response to everyone in the class so that all can benefit, and also so I don’t have to answer the same question more than once.

There will be four tests given on the campus of your choice, proctored by me or the good folks in the LRC. If you live far outside of the SSCC area then perhaps we can make alternate arrangements. But all tests are proctored. I do not give tests online because that invites widespread cheating.

I count your best test twice, so there are actually five test grades. These will be 80% of your total grade.

Homework assignments will be collected weekly, on average. I’ll drop the lowest homework, but homeworks account for 20% of your grade. There are several ways to turn in homework assignments. You can fax them to me, or scan yours and e-mail them, you can type them up (the worst option by far), or you can drop them off in my mailbox at Central Campus. You can also have them faxed to me from another campus.

I scan your graded tests and homework assignments and return them by e-mail, and also in person if we meet.

I am very reliable at e-mail, usually writing back within 24 hours or less in most cases. I take care to use good English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and I expect you to return that courtesy when you write to me.

Learning math online can be a challenge. I am determined to make the most of this but there is only so much I can do. Your success is largely determined by your effort, your attitude, your work ethic, and your willingness to get help or ask questions when needed.

I have a phone on campus and I am availble on campus if you need one-on-one help. We also have tutors on campus.

Please write to me at math@sscc.edu, or call me at ext. 2648, or find me at Central Campus in my office in room 400 if you have questions or concerns about taking this online class.

Don’t forget to visit this site and follow instructions—soon!
