The “Your Place” Program began in 1979 by Nancy Wolford and moved to Southern State Community College in 1983, a pilot program for displaced homemakers and single parents.  Karen Davis became the Director after Nancy in 1989.  Nancy is currently serving as Southern State’s Psychology Professor, and Karen is the Dean of Research and Planning/Director of Fayette Center. Karen hired both Sue and Rhonda to carry on the program’s mission.

 

Rhonda Fannin

Rhonda Fannin has been an Instructor of The “Your Place” Program and currently is the Programs’ Director of the Southern Ohio Center of Excellence which operates within Southern State Community College serving Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties. This is the first Regional Center of Excellence, a pilot project for the Ohio College Access Network (OCAN) and received OCAN’s Seal of Good Practice and the Seal of Excellence Award (one of three) in 2007. Rhonda holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Ohio University and a Master Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton. She has taught in public schools and at the college level with Adult Learners for over 15 years.  Rhonda is certified in Ruby K. Payne’s A Framework for Understanding Poverty and trained in Philip E. DeVol’s Getting Ahead in a Just Getting by World

Sue Evans, Director/Instructor/Grants Coordinator of The “Your Place” Program, was hired in 1989 to serve this disadvantaged, underserved population at Southern State Community College. Sue holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Organizational Management from Wilberforce University. She is certified as a qualified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and certified to administer the Prepare/Enrich Inventories to assist in building better marriages. Sue continues to submit grant requests to assist this population and was recently awarded a grant to publish and promote this workbook from the Ohio Verizon Foundation. She has been selected for inclusion in the Marquis Who’sWho in America, Who’sWho in the World, Who’sWho in American Education, Who’sWho of American Women, Manchester Who’s Who Among Executive and Professional Women, and Madison Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals for inclusion in the “Honors Edition”. Broken Wings Fly, compiled by C. Sue Evans, is a compilation of writings from widows, single parents, and homemakers, and was published in 2002. Broken Wings Fly Again will be published with writings since 2002.
