The Adult Learner Class and Resource Lab

"Your Place" offers a 6 credit hour class for Adult Learners who need guidance and confidence to set and reach their goals. "Your Place" staff guides individuals in transition in the direction of obtaining gainful employment or going on to higher levels of education. Students who qualify for college retention support allowances include single parents, displaced homemakers, single-pregnant women, married individuals who must develop skills to earn a livable wage due to divorce, disability, unemployment, underemployment or death of a spouse; vocational and Tech Prep students are also eligible to receive services via the "Your Place" Resource Lab. In addition to support services, the "Your Place" Program offers a laptop loan program and the continued support for student confidence needed to obtain one’s goals which have a positive effect on their family and community. The "Your Place" Resource Lab provides students with equipment and resources useful in career development activities. Newspapers, career interest inventories, computer software for tutoring and career development, employment opportunity listings, telephone and fax access are available within the Lab.

LOCATION: The class will meet at various locations throughout SSCC’s five county service area, except on special assignment days.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance is very important. All students should try to achieve perfect attendance. It is required that a student attend 90% of scheduled class days. Only days attended in full will be given credit for travel and/or childcare allowance, unless other arrangements are made with the Instructor. Should you have appointments made during class hours, you should reschedule.
BOOKS: "Your Place" for the Adult Learner Workbook and Broken Wings Fly. Both are available in SSCC's Bookstores.
ALLOWANCES: College retention allowances are available based on availability of funds and student eligibility.
