Seeking aesthetic inspiration? Throughout the year, Southern State presents art exhibitions featuring local and global talent. Most of the events also include meet-the-artist receptions.
All art showcases, exhibits and competitions are hosted in the Appalachian Gateway Center located on South Campus unless otherwise stated.
Area High School Art Showcase

The Area High School Art Showcase gives high school students a chance to display their artwork for the college and community to see. All high school students currently enrolled in Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette and Highland counties are eligible to submit up to three works of original work to the annual exhibition and open house.
Dates & Time
The showcase is held in February along with an open house. More information will be posted as the event gets closer.

Ohio Watercolor Society Exhibit
The Ohio Watercolor Society is comprised of some of the best artists from Ohio that work in watercolor. The purpose of the Ohio Watercolor Society is to advance the stature of watercolor and other water soluable media and to foster public appreciation in the area of watermedia.

Area Artist Exhibition & Competition
The Area Artist Exhibition & Competition invites local artists to submit entries in a range of categories including painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography, sculpture, stained glass, pottery, jewelry, fine–art craft and woodcraft.

The exhibit is held in May along with an Artist Reception and Awards Presentation. More information will be posted as the event gets closer.
Permanent Art Collection
When there are no current art exhibits being displayed, the Appalachain Gateway Center has a permanent art collection that can viewed in the gallery. The collection includes a range of pieces including some by local artists.
