     Join us for an exciting fall weekend at one of North America’s leading theatre festivals. Attend performances of two Shakespearean plays, take a backstage tour of the Festival Theatre, stroll the banks of the River Avon, and explore Stratford’s unique shops, galleries, and bookstores.

HOW: Sign up for our Continuing Education course, Shakespeare in Performance, or our one-credit English 199: Topics in Shakespeare. Both courses are listed on the College’s Fall – 2008 schedule.

 

COST: Included with your tuition and fees. Here’s what’s included:

 

o        Roundtrip transportation between Stratford and SSCC’s Hillsboro (Central) campus.

o        Limited shuttle service between Stratford hotels and theatres

o        2 nights’ lodging at the Albert St. Inn or SGH Residence*

o        One “A Seating” ticket for Romeo & Juliet

o        One “A Seating” ticket for Love’s Labour’s Lost

o        Backstage tour of the Festival Theatre

o        Buffet style dinner (Saturday evening)

WHY STRATFORD: The Stratford Festival has an international reputation and attracts more than 500,000 visitors a year. Actors such as Paul Scofield, James Mason, Dame Maggie Smith, and Christopher Plummer have appeared on its stages. The Festival’s productions are noted for making Shakespeare accessible and entertaining to audiences of all kinds.

 

 

LODGING: Option A – Those who sign up for the Continuing Education course, Shakespeare In Performance, will stay at the Albert Street Inn, a full service hotel located in downtown Stratford and within easy walking distance of shops, parks, theatres, and restaurants. No smoking on premises.

Option B – Those who sign up for English 199, Topics in Shakespeare, will stay at the SGH Residence. A former nursing college dormitory, SGH is located in a pleasant residential area that is an approximate 15 - minute walk from downtown Stratford. Each room is equipped with a vanity, sink, refrigerator, bedding, and towels. Separate male and female common washrooms are on all floors. Accommodations include a full breakfast. No smoking on premises.

 

TRANSPORTATION:  A Croswell motor coach will provide transportation between our Hillsboro (Central) Campus and Stratford. Some shuttle service will be provided while in Stratford. Croswell’s 54 passenger motor coach offers deluxe reclining seats, overhead parcel racks, HVAC with individual climate controls, and a restroom. No smoking is permitted on the bus.

 

 

 

CROSSING THE U.S. – CANADIAN BORDER

 

As of January 31, 2008, the United States no longer accepts oral declarations of citizenship at the U.S. – Canadian border. New border crossing regulations appear below.

 

U.S. citizens ages 19 and older must present documentation that proves identity and citizenship. There are two options for meeting this requirement:

 

          OPTION 1 Single Document Option: Present a current U.S. Passport

 

          OPTION 2 Two Document Option: Present both an identification document and

                            a citizenship document.

 

                             identification document: a valid state’s driver’s license; a U.S.

                             military ID; or an identification card issued by a federal, state,

                             county, or municipal authority. Your identification document must

                             include a photo and show your name and date of birth.

 

                             citizenship document: a birth certificate issued by a federal, state,

                             county, or municipal authority; a U.S. Citizen Identification Card; a U.S.

                             Certificate of Citizenship; or a U.S. Certificate of Naturalization.

 

Children ages 18 and under are only required to present proof of citizenship. This may be a birth certificate issued by a federal, state, county, or municipal authority; a U.S. Citizen Identification Card; a U.S. Certificate of Citizenship; or a U.S. Certificate of Naturalization.

THE COURSES

Continuing Education ENRC 555 Z01: Shakespeare in Performance          Oct. 3—5   Tuition & Fees -- $420.00

     One way to sign up for our Stratford trip is to enroll in this non-credit Continuing Education course. This is a personal enrichment course; there are no class meetings to attend and no coursework to complete. You sign up simply to take the trip.

 

     Upon registering, you’ll be provided with an information packet containing details about the trip, the city of Stratford, and the two plays we’ll see in performance. Registration begins June 2 and ends August 15.

English 199: Topics in Shakespeare   Aug. 4 – Oct. 15   Tuition & Fees --$250.00 Resident/$330 Non-Resident

    The other way to sign up for our Stratford trip is to enroll in this one-credit English course. This course has a start date of August 4. On that date, students will be contacted by instructors with detailed course information. There is only one class meeting for this course: Saturday, September 28, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Ed Daniels Auditorium on Central Campus. Registration begins June 2 and ends August 4. * Tuition and fees for this course will be treated as an allowable expense by financial aid. No refunds after August 4.

Textbooks: Oxford School Shakespeare Series Editions of Romeo & Juliet (ISBN 0-19-832149-X) and Love’s Labour’s Lost (ISBN 0-19-832012-4) may be purchased from the SSCC Central Campus Bookstore. They are also available from Amazon.com and Oxford University Press.

  8:00 a.m. – Board bus at Central Campus parking lot; arrive in Stratford late afternoon.

 

  Saturday, October 4

 

  9:45 a.m. – Take a one-hour backstage tour of the Festival Theatre.

  2:00 p.m. – Attend a matinee performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Festival Theatre

  6:00 p.m. – Enjoy a buffet style dinner

  8:00 p.m. – Attend an evening performance of Love’s Labour’s Lost at the Tom

                      Patterson Theatre

 

  Sunday, October 5

 

  9:00 a.m. – Board bus for return trip; arrive in Hillsboro late afternoon
