When we say Community College, we mean we want to serve the community. We are here to provide value to you as a community, and we take that responsibility seriously. We offer many free services, so keep reading - we don’t want them to be a secret!

One of these services is the Connect Ohio Initiative. Connect Ohio has implemented a statewide broadband training program called Every Citizen Online (ECO), in order to increase broadband adoption in Ohio. Southern State is part of the free computer training sessions at community colleges, libraries, and educational centers throughout Ohio. This free program teaches new users how to access the internet, and includes three, 2-hour sessions covering computer basics, internet basics, and discussions about how broadband can be helpful in daily life.

For more information or to find a training location near you, call us at 1-855-669-4226, e-mail info@connectohio.org, or go to Connect Ohio's site and contact the facility at their number.

And as an added benefit, as of March 2, 2011, Frontier Communications announced that they will give a FREE netbook computer to graduates of the Connect Ohio ECO computer and internet training program who sign up for Frontier’s High-Speed Internet service with a price protection plan. For more information on Frontier’s netbook offer for Connect Ohio ECO graduates, call 1-800-483-1455, ext. 7638.

Another great service is the Adult Opportunity Center. Did you know that the AOC offers FREE Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) classes at each campus and several off-campus locations? And that these include all books and materials? Did you know that they also offer GED preparation, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and College Readiness classes? They’re all free! We encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful community service…for more information, visit the Adult Opportunity Center.

We also provide services in the way of career choice, career development, and even how to choose a college major by way of the Career Services department. Career Services can help you find a career path and outline all the objectives you need to accomplish your goals, provide resume assistance, and even conduct mock interviews, all at no charge! Make an appointment today!

We would be remiss if we did not mention the services provided by our local partners at the Jobs & Family Services centers in our five-county service area. We all work together to provide opportunities for job training and re-training, services for displaced workers and those about to enter the jobs market. For more information on any of their services, we direct you to their sites:

Take advantage of us … We’re glad to be part of your community.
