Wellness Mission & Resources
Mission Statement:
To enhance organizational health by fostering interest and encouraging employees to initiate or expand healthier lifestyles, provide diverse wellness programs to meet a wide range of personal health needs, recognize employees for participating in healthier lifestyle activities, decrease absenteeism due to illness and stress and develop a positive culture that is focused on celebrating and improving the quality of life for all employees.
Vision Statement:
The vision of Southern State Community College is to become a champion for Southern State Community employees and their families in achieving healthier lifestyles.
Goals:
To provide diverse wellness programs that promote the health and wellness of employees and their families through education and initiative which:
- Encourage habits of wellness
- Increase Awareness of factors and resources contributing to well-being
- Inspire and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health
- Support a sense of community.
- To make employee wellness accessible, educational, and enlightening.

External Event Participation
The vision of Southern State Community College is to become a champion for Southern State Community College employees and their families in achieving healthier lifestyles. Southern State also understands the importance of giving back to your community and raising money for a good cause. We encourage you to get involved with your community and participate in any community sponsored exercise event.
Sample of activities that meet the vision of the committee that would also qualify for external wellness credit include but are not limited to the following: annual dental screening, annual vision screen, taking a class related to health/wellness, participating in community walks/runs (i.e., March of Dimes or walks for heart disease or cancer), attending a local Health and Wellness Fair, attending a Health/Wellness conference, seminar, webinar, meeting with a dietician, nutritionist, joining a weight management group.
To receive credit for this measure you can participate in a community exercise event and have the event organizer fill out the Community Wellness Event Certificate (document below). Submit the completed Community Wellness Event Certificate to Kate Honeycutt.

Workspace Evaluation
Please contact: Kate Honeycutt - 800.628.7722, Ext. 2565, to schedule an evaluation of your workspace. Greg Nartker with the BWC will conduct all workspace evaluations; this can be considered participation for attending a wellness event.

Fitness
Walking Track
The Southern State walking track is located at Central Campus and is always open to all members of the college community. One lap on the track is 0.61 miles or approximately 1100 Fitbit steps.
