Workshops for Water & Wastewater Operators

Water

Advanced Treatment Technologies for the Water & Wastewater Process

Description

A Look at advanced treatment technologies to remove and/or destroy emerging chemical and biological contaminants in the water/wastewaters. Much of the technologies presented are available and in use today. We will take a step forward and review how combining much of these technologies will yield better process control. See how using photovoltaic technology (electrical generating panels) can give added treatment strength to oxidation and destruction processes. See how the generation of two common ions can give added "punch" to existing treatment processes. Review what it takes to incorporate these technologies into your process and gain regulatory approvals

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how OH˜ and HO2˜ ion generation and in combination with other technologies may be the practical choice for both emerging biological and chemical issues in our water and wastewaters
  • Learn of cutting-edge technology to treat, oxidize, and remove most of these emerging issues
  • Operators and superintendents gain basic knowledge to deal with these emerging issues and potentially establish a course of action should any of these show up in their systems
  • View steps that may be needed to establish these treatment technologies to achieve regulatory approvals

21st Century Membrane Technology in the Water and Wastewater Process

Description

This program looks at the use of membranes in water and wastewater treatment process. 1st, we will define a typical membrane, then, look at the types of membrane processes and applications for use in both water and wastewater. See why membranes are fast-becoming accepted technology to achieve super water quality in today's fast-paced regulation driven enhanced treatment. See how membranes may be the "Best Available Technology" for enhanced nutrient removal in treated wastewater effluents. Finally, we'll explore how membranes are manufactured and see what drives the selection process and their applications.

Learning Objectives

  • Operators will be able to explain what a typical membrane system is and describe the difference with traditional particle filtration
  • Develop a working understanding of reverse osmosis and be able to define a basic working RO membrane function
  • Describe membrane technology applications in both water and wastewater with a particular eye to membrane selection, operations, and potential costs.
  • Describe membrane in specific wastewater applications, especially in Enhance Nutrient Removal, & dramatic TOC reduction. Compare MBR operations to traditional Activated Sludge processes.
