If you are on a Southern State Campus, the guide below will help you change your password. You must be logged in to one of the college's computers at any of the four campuses.

If you are unable to make it to campus, please contact Tech Support via phone or email. If you cannot access your SSCC email you can use an alternate email address. In the email include your name, student ID, and a phone number at which you can be reached because login information will not be sent to an insecure email address (any email address other than @live.sscc.edu or @sscc.edu).

Office 365 is a free cloud-based suite of applications available to all SSCC students. It includes "light" versions of traditional office programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as the OneDrive application which allows up to 5 GB of online storage so students can access their files from anywhere. Take the Office365 tour for more details.

To forward your SSCC email from Office 365 to another account follow the Forward SSCC Email Instructions.

Minimum Supported Browsers

MyELearn (Canvas) highly recommends using the newest version of whatever browser you are using. However, MyELearn supports the following browsers and Flash versions (as of 4/10/18):

  • Chrome 63 and 64
  • Firefox 57 and 58 (Extended Releases are not supported)
  • Safari 10 and 11 (Macintosh only)
  • Flash 27 and 28 (used for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files)
  • Respondus Lockdown Browser (supporting the latest system requirements)

Not sure what browser you are using? Visit supportdetails.com/ and check the 'Browser' box to see which browser you are using.

Some supported browsers may still produce a banner stating "Your browser does not meet the minimum requirements for Canvas." If you have upgraded your browser but you are still seeing the warning banner, try logging out of MyELearn (Canvas) and deleting your browser cookies.

If you are getting a blank page in MyELearn, your browser may be detecting mixed content. For information on fixing this problem, see the section on "Browser Privacy Settings" in the Canvas guide.

Other Browser Requirements

Flash is required in several places in MyELearn: media recording/streaming and viewing as well as uploading files to a course or an assignment. Other than these features, Flash is not required to use most areas of MyELearn.

The Java plug-in is required for screen sharing in Conferences. Please note that some browsers do not support Java. Otherwise, there are no other browser plug-ins used by MyELearn.

Mobile Devices

The Canvas Student app is the mobile version of MyELearn (Canvas) that helps students stay current with their courses anywhere. Download the Canvas Student app on Android and iOS devices. Additional information on the Canvas Student app can be found in the Android Guide or iOS Guide.

Do I have the time?

An online course worth three credit hours requires an average time commitment of nine to 12 hours a week. Many students report that online courses take more time than classroom courses.

Do I have the skills?

Online learning requires self-discipline, focus and the ability to prioritize your own workload. You should be able to learn from reading as well as follow written instructions.

Do I have the computer skills?

In order to succeed in an online course, you should have good keyboarding skills, know how to create, save and manage files, be familiar with file extensions, know how to use attachments and upload/download files, be able to run any computer application required for the course, be able to install software and be comfortable using a web browser.

Do I have the minumum computer requirements?

Check the Canvas (MyELearn) Technical Information to make sure you have the required platform technologies. You will also need the following minimum software requirements:

  • Reliable internet service provider (dial-up connection will work but DSL or cable is preferred)
  • Reputable anti-virus program (be sure to regularly update your anti-virus program and visit Microsoft Windows Update to be sure you have the latest protection against viruses)

Some MyELearn courses use browser plugins. To view portions of these sites, you may need one or more of the following plugins (browsers will generally automatically download any plugin required by a particular page):

  • Adobe Reader – view, navigate and print Adobe PDF files across all major computing platforms
  • Flash – view interactive quizzes, animations and activities
  • Java plug-in – run applications and applets that use Java technology
  • QuickTime – view videos
  • Real Player – play video and audio files
  • Shockwave – view interactive quizzes, animations and activities
  • Windows Media Player – play video and audio files

If you are a new faculty or staff member and need the ability to login and submit grades, you will need to read the FFERPA Policy and sign and return the Confidentiality Statement and Student Records Access Request form linked below.

To Submit Class Grades:

  • Login to MyRecords, click on "Faculty" located in the top left corner under the SSCC logo.
  • Click "My Classes" to view the credit hours and times of the classes. Select a course to find out more information about it (prerequisite, etc.). Under "Class Roster", click "View" to find a list of currently enrolled students in the class. This is always up-to-date with registration.
  • At the bottom of the page, you will have the capability of inputting grades, days absent and last date attended.
  • Click "Go" at the bottom of the page. It will be defaulted to "Final Grade" and "Enter the Days Absent".
  • Next, click on the "Select All" button then click the "Submit" button (you will receive an email when the export is created)
  • On the next page, you will be able to enter the grades. There is a drop-down menu that shows the acceptable grade codes. You may enter the days absent (not required). If you give a final grade of "U", "Y", "N", "I", "WI" or "F", please enter the last date the student attended as the Office of Financial Aid needs this information especially if a student has stopped attending the class. Please do this by clicking on the calendar beside the input field for date. Click on the month/day of the last attendance.
  • When finished inputting grades, click "Continue" and you'll be taken to another page that allows you to verify all of the grades. To finish, click "Submit Grades". Repeat this process until you have submitted grades for all of your classes.

To Send an Early Alert Message:

  • Login to MyRecords, click on "Faculty" located in the top left corner under the SSCC logo then click on the yellow, triangle-shaped Early Alert Message icon located at the left.
  • To submit an Early Alert Message for an at-risk student, simply click on "Select Students". Enter the students' names and ID numbers manually or click on "Select" from the drop box.
  • Select the class list in which the student(s) to be reported are enrolled. The class roster will appear. Click on the student's name (it will appear in the box to the right of the list along with their ID number). You may keep adding names if students have a common problem (i.e. attendance or failure to complete assignments).
  • Once you have selected the at-risk students, click on "OK" and begin filling out the report. You may choose from a list of concerns and/or share additional information in the box below.
  • Click on "Submit Early Alert" after you have completed the report.

When to Use Early Alert Messages

You should send an early alert message when a student:

  • Has not logged into his/her online class;
  • Has academic or attendance issues;
  • Seems underprepared;
  • Has other at-risk factors needing additional resources or referrals; or
  • Needs progress monitored during critical times such as midterms, finals or withdrawal deadlines.

If you have issues or do not see the Early Alert Message icon when logged into MyRecords, please email Stephanie Bartley at sbartley@sscc.edu or call x2880.
