Southern State Student Reflects on Transformative College Experience Ahead of Graduation- As graduation approaches this May, Logan Savage, a dedicated student in the theatre program at Southern State, is preparing to take the next step toward her future after earning her Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in theatre. Her journey highlights the college's supportive environment, engaged faculty, and the meaningful opportunities available to students both inside and outside the classroom.
From Doubt to Determination: A Southern State Success Story- When Yvonne Price first walked into Southern State Community College, she was uncertain, overwhelmed, and still recovering from brain surgery she had undergone four years earlier. Speaking was difficult, finding the right words was a challenge, and confidence did not come easy. Her goal was simple–take one class and see if she could handle it.
That plan changed quickly.
SSCC Reinstates Super Start Scholarship for High School Graduates- The Summer Super Start Scholarship is back and now available to high school seniors graduating this spring. This scholarship is designed to provide financial support for students enrolling in summer courses immediately following graduation.
Savage Named Coca-Cola Academic Team Member- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce that Logan Savage has been named a member of the 2026 Coca-Cola Academic Team and will receive a $1,300 scholarship.

Southern State Celebrates Community College Month- This April, Southern State joins colleges nationwide in celebrating Community College Month, highlighting the essential role community and technical colleges play in powering America's workforce and expanding economic opportunity.
Southern State Announces Hiring of Enrollment Management Director- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. James (Jim) Farmer as its new Director of Enrollment Management. In this role, Farmer will lead the college's student recruitment strategies and enrollment growth initiatives.
Summer and Fall Semester Registration Now Open to all Students at Southern State Community College- Southern State Community College has officially opened registration for the upcoming Summer and Fall Semesters, welcoming new and returning students to enroll in a wide range of academic and workforce development programs.
SSCC Board of Trustees to meet March 26- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, on SSCC's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro, for their regular Board meeting.
Southern State Student Selected for PTK Ohio Region Officer- Vanesa Melendez, a student at Southern State Community College, has been selected to serve as the Western District Representative for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Ohio Region 2026-27 Officer Team. This selection places Melendez among a small group of student leaders representing members across the state.
SSCC Theatre presents 'Noises Off' April 10-12- SSCC Theatre presents Michael Frayn's "Noises Off," playing April 10-12 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 3:30 p.m.

Summer Semester Registration Now Open at Southern State- Registration for the 2026 Summer Semester is now open at Southern State Community College, offering students flexible, affordable opportunities to stay on track, get ahead, or explore new career pathways.
Community College Graduate Achieves Academic Success Through College Credit Plus Program at SSCC- Through the College Credit Plus (CCP) Program at Southern State, Addyston Knauff was able to enhance her career readiness portfolio, accelerate her post-secondary degree, and find academic success through dedication, perseverance, and early college engagement, all while still in high school.
McClellan to Lead Southern State's New Division of Enrollment and Workforce Innovation- Southern State Community College is pleased to announce the establishment of a new division in enrollment and workforce innovation, designed to strengthen student success and deepen the alignment between education and regional workforce needs. SSCC announces honors lists for fall semester- Southern State Community College has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for Fall Semester 2025. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
New Scholarship Opportunity at Southern State- Southern State's new Jump Start Scholarship is designed for graduating high school students who have no college experience. This scholarship will pay for one class (tuition, fees and books) at Southern State the summer or fall semester following high school graduation.
SSCC Board of Trustees to meet January 22- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, on SSCC's Brown County Campus, Community Room, 351 Brooks-Malott Rd., Mt. Orab, for their regular Board meeting. The board will enter into an executive session to consider the employment, dismissal, discipline, or demotion of a public employee.
Southern State Announces 5-Week Fiber Optic Course- Southern State Community College will hold a 5-week Fiber Optic course, designed for individuals of all skill levels, that will equip students with the essential skills needed to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of fiber optics.
Fall Semester scholarship application opens February 1 at Southern State- Students enrolled, or planning to enroll, at Southern State Community College for the Fall Semester, which begins in August, can benefit from various financial resources to help offset the cost of a college education.
