SSCC to hold orientation for free GED preparation classes- The Adult Opportunity Center (AOC) at Southern State Community College is offering a January orientation for new program enrollees in basic academic skills, GED preparation, and college readiness.
Simulator added to SSCC’s health sciences programs- Students in Southern State Community College’s health sciences programs will gain an increasingly realistic lab experience thanks to the addition of new Human Patient Simulator (HPS).
New truck driver training program offers free tuition and job opportunity- To help encourage and promote careers in truck driving, Schneider—one of the nation’s largest truckload carriers—is offering a Contract Training Program in conjunction with Southern State Community College’s Truck Driving Academy (TDA).

Southern State offers new accelerated courses in Real Estate- A new accelerated program in Real Estate will be offered at Southern State Community College beginning in January.
SSCC Theatre announces auditions for "August: Osage County"- SSCC Theatre is pleased to announce upcoming auditions for the spring production of Tracy Letts’ "August: Osage County."
Southern State donates laptops to YMCA program- The YMCA accepted a donation of 11 laptop computers from Southern State Community College.
Bob McEwen sworn in as SSCC trustee- At the Nov. 12 meeting of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees, Fayette County Probate Court Judge David B. Bender presided over the swearing in of Bob McEwen whose appointment fills one of four vacancies on the college’s board.
SSCC to perform Nov. 16 Veterans Day concert- The Southern State Community Band and Southern State Singers will honor our nation’s heroes with a Veterans Day concert 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus.
SSCC Board of Trustees to meet November 12- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Community Center on the college’s Fayette Campus.

SSCC Theatre presents "The Importance of Being Earnest" Nov. 7–9- SSCC Theatre will present Oscar Wilde’s "The Importance of Being Earnest," at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8, and at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on the Central Campus.
SSCC Board of Trustees cancel special meeting- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees has canceled a special meeting for the consideration of the sale of property.
Branscome signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Hillsboro High School standout Alex Branscome has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Local women invited to Dress for Success- "Ask for what you need." This is the advice that Kelly Collison, Associate Director of Programming for Dress for Success Cincinnati, repeated to guests at Highland County’s first ever Dress for Success event held Thursday at the Highland County Training and Employment Center (Hi-TEC) in Hillsboro.
Bob McEwen appointed as Southern State trustee- Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich’s office has announced an appointment to the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees. Hillsboro native Bob McEwen will serve for a term continuing through May 11, 2018.

SSCC shocks PSU-GA in sudden death overtime- In its second game of the season, the Southern State Community College soccer team defeated Penn State University – Greater Allegheny Aug. 31 in a sudden death overtime thriller.
SSCC falls to PSU-NK in season opener- Southern State Community College’s soccer team kicked off the 2014 season Aug. 30 at Penn State University (New Kensington) in Pennsylvania.

SSCC announces honors lists for summer semester- Southern State Community College has released its president’s and dean’s list for academic excellence for Summer Semester 2014.
Southern State opens new campus in Mt. Orab- To mark the official opening, a Dedication Ceremony was held Aug. 20 at the newest Southern State campus which is located at 351 Brooks-Malott Road in Mt. Orab.

SSCC Theatre season tickets now available- From the classic delight of "The Importance of Being Earnest" to the angst-ridden humor of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," SSCC Theatre’s 2014-15 season covers the range from comedy to tragedy with a few stops in between.
SSCC Basic Peace Officers complete training- The cadets of Southern State Community College’s Basic Peace Officers Training Program were recognized at a special ceremony held July 10 at the college’s Fayette Campus in Washington Court House.

Bates signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Fairfield High School standout Ryan Bates has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
SSCC expands bachelor, master degree opportunities to Fayette County- Southern State Community College is expanding its partnership with Lindsey Wilson College (LWC) to offer advanced degrees in Fayette County. Classes begin Friday, Aug. 29.
Sears signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Hillsboro High School standout Wesley Sears has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
SSCC Respiratory Care celebrates graduation- Southern State Community College’s eighth graduating class in the respiratory care program was honored during a recent ceremony on the college’s Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Sneak Peek of SSCC’s Mt. Orab campus set for July 15- Southern State Community College will host a Sneak Peek of its newest campus in Brown County from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at 351 Brooks-Malott Road in Mt. Orab.

- The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting 1 p.m. Monday, June 30, in Room 149 of Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro, for the purpose of holding an executive session to consider the acquisition and sale of property.
SSCC Theatre presents 'Macbeth' July 25-27- SSCC Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s "Macbeth," at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, and at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on the Central Campus.
SSCC’s Adult Opportunity Center holds recognition celebration- Area residents who passed the General Education Development (GED) test were honored June 13 at the 26th annual Adult Opportunity Center’s Recognition Celebration at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus in Hillsboro.
SSCC to host early childhood education conference- The sixth annual early childhood education conference, "Building Bridges Birth Through Age Eight," will be held July 28–August 1, 2014, at Southern State Community College’s Central Campus.

- OACC names Jack Hershey next President and CEO
- COLUMBUS – State finance expert and veteran public higher education advocate Jack Hershey has been named the new President and CEO of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC).
Murray signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Clermont Northeastern High School standout Zach Murray has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Ladrach posthumously conferred title of SSCC Faculty Emeritus- As a tribute to the legacy of the late Professor Samuel N. Ladrach, Ph.D., the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees voted May 2 to confer upon him the title of Faculty Emeritus.
Info session set May 29 for SSCC’s electromechanical degree- Through a partnership between Southern State Community College and the DP&L Generation Center, students can earn an associate degree in Electromechanical Engineering or take general education courses that will fit into most academic pathways, all at the site in Manchester.
Info session for SSCC, Scioto Tech partnership set for May 28- Through a partnership between Southern State Community College and Scioto County Career Technical Center, students can now earn an associate degree in Computer Information Technology, Law Enforcement, or LPN-RN, all on the Scioto Tech site in Lucasville.
SSCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program graduates 29- Twenty-nine graduates of Southern State Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing program were recognized during a recent pinning ceremony at the college’s Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Prine signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Eastern High School standout Riley Prine has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Inman signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Lynchburg-Clay High School standout guard Ryan Inman has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Montgomery signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Fairfield High School standout guard Gage Montgomery has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Info session planned May 20 for SSCC’s aviation degree- An associate’s degree in Engineering: Aviation Maintenance is now offered through a partnership between Southern State Community College and Great Oaks Career Campuses. Those interested in learning more about the program are invited to a May 20 orientation and informational session; classes begin Aug. 25.
SSCC to host free Biotech 2014 workshop on May 16- Southern State Community College will offer Biotech 2014 Edvotek Workshop: Biotechnology Applications for Agriculture and Education from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, on the college’s Fayette Campus.
Casey signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Manchester High School senior standout Rainelle Casey has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Dinsmore signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- North Adams High School senior standout Sara Dinsmore has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
SSCC students named to All-Ohio Academic Team- Sixty of the highest achieving community-college students from around Ohio were honored Wednesday, April 30, as part of the All-Ohio Academic Team Awards. Seven students from Southern State Community College were included in the honors.

Smith signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Alec Smith, a graduate of Lynchburg-Clay High School and freshman at Morehead State University, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Waits signs Letter of Intent to play SSCC basketball- Lynchburg-Clay standout guard Gage Waits has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Southern State Community College.
Southern State Singers to present April 27 spring concert- The Southern State Singers will present a spring concert 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 234 N. High St., Hillsboro.
Southern State students inducted into PTK honor society- The membership of one of higher education’s most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), was enhanced by the induction of several new members at an April 19 ceremony on the Central Campus of Southern State Community College.
SSCC Theatre sets ‘Macbeth’ auditions this weekend- SSCC Theatre is pleased to announce upcoming auditions for the summer production of William Shakespeare’s "Macbeth." Atrium Medical Center donates equipment to Southern State- Atrium Medical Center recently donated a BiPAP machine to the respiratory care program at Southern State Community College.

Education fares well in Governor’s annual address- In his fourth State of the State address, Gov. John Kasich placed high importance on learning initiatives in Ohio, specifically citing the move to performance-based funding and the community college's role in workforce development, college credit in high school, and GED attainment.
SSCC deemed eligible for Community College Excellence prize- Southern State Community College was one of 150 colleges nationwide determined eligible to apply for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
