Associate of Arts
Requirements
To receive an Associate of Arts, the student must complete course work that satisfies the following guidelines:
- 1. The Southern State Transfer Module (36 semester credit hours) must be satisfied.
- 2. A minimum total of 60 semester credit hours of courses numbering 1100 or above must be successfully completed.
- 3. Course work must be distributed in the following manner (in all cases, courses taken to satisfy the Transfer Module may be included in these totals):
English / Communications – 9 hours
ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102 and COMM 1115*
*Must be completed on campus.
Social Sciences – 9 hours
Courses from at least two areas
Mathematics & Science – 9 hours
At least one course in mathematics and two courses in science
Arts & Humanities – 12 hours
Courses from at least two areas
Electives – 21 hours
Students are to plan their program with the help and approval of their Advisor.
Students with specific baccalaureate goals should meet the degree requirements with electives that are approved by an advisor at the receiving institution.
Concentrations
A concentration is an academic focus within an Associates of Arts or Science Degree. For example, a student who is planning to Transfer to a four-year institution for Engineering may be interested in pursuing a concentration in Mathmatics.
Students must meet all requirements for the Associate of Arts or Science Degree, and the Transfer Module to qualify for a concentration.
