Medical Overview & Eligibility

Southern State Community College's HDHP medical plan is administered by Anthem Blue Cross/ Blue Shield. Employees may contact Anthem directly with questions regarding their coverage. Anthem also offers a web portal where members can log in and manage their accounts.

One of the perks of an HDHP is being able to open a health savings account (HSA) which is a tax-advantaged savings account. In fact, HSAs are exclusively available to people covered by an HDHP. Employees can contribute pre-tax dollars to their HSA or use their HSA to receive their earned contribution from SSCC. Through SSCC, you also have the option of a health reimbursement account (HRA). Only SSCC can contribute to the HRA based on your earned contribution. See the HSA/HRA section for more information.

Transparency in Coverage (TIC) regulations require health insurers and group health plans to create machine readable files (MRFs) that contain the negotiated rates for in-network providers and allowed amounts derived from historical claims for out-of-network providers. These files will be available on July 1, 2022 on Anthem's website (https://www.anthem.com/machine-readable-file/search) (opens in a new window). SSCC's tax ID number (EIN), 31-0858297, is needed to access information.

All employees who are active and in a Full-Time position are eligible for benefits through SSCC. The full-time employee's legal spouse and all unmarried dependent children, under the age of twenty-six (26) are also eligible.
